Salah Elias
Dr. Salah Elias is an Associate Professor in Epithelial Cell Biology at the University of Southampton. He completed his PhD in Neuroscience in 2014 at the University of Rouen, France, under the supervision of Prof. Maite Montero-Hadjadje and Prof. Youssef Anouar, studying secretory vesicle biogenesis and trafficking.
He conducted postdoctoral research at the Curie Institute in France with Dr. Sandrine Humbert, where he demonstrated that huntingtin and kinesin-1 regulate spindle orientation and apical polarity in mammary epithelial cells during development and homeostasis. He then joined Prof. Elizabeth Robertson's lab at the Dunn School of Pathology, University of Oxford, where he identified a new subset of mammary stem cells expressing Blimp1, which drive gland morphogenesis and homeostasis.
In 2017, Dr. Elias was appointed as a Lecturer at the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Southampton. In 2018, he received an MRC New Investigator Research Grant and a Wellcome Trust Seed Award in Science, enabling him to establish his own lab. His research focuses on understanding the mechanisms of oriented cell division (OCD) in the normal mammary epithelium to elucidate cell division defects unique to breast cancer cells.
Dr. Salah Elias is a leading researcher in epithelial cell biology, with a distinguished career marked by significant contributions to understanding cell division and its implications in cancer. His ongoing research continues to provide valuable insights into the fundamental processes of cell biology and cancer development.
